In 2021, Libya officially joined the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, marking a historic step in the country’s commitment to combating climate change and protecting the environment. A year later, in 2022, the Chairman of the NOC announced—during an event in Abu Dhabi—the corporation’s pledge to significantly cut down flare gas emissions, setting the stage for a strategic shift toward sustainable development goals. Later that same year, the NOC’s board issued a formal decision to establish a committee for the 2030 Initiative, symbolizing the beginning of a bold and proactive environmental transformation.
